A documentary exploring the potential environmental and human impacts of a wall along our southern border.

The ESS Program will have an informational table about its majors, particularly focusing on the environmental science side of ESS, along with all other science departments.

A panel of experts will discuss sustainability on campus and in the broader community.

A documentary focusing on many never-before-seen solutions designed to slow down our escalating environmental crisis.

Saturday, April 4, 10 am 3 pm, Sustainability Fair

The Sustainability Office and Sustainable Saratoga will host events, informational tables, and workshops highlighting campus and community sustainability efforts.

Dr. Kara Belinsky from SYNY New Paltz will give a public talk entitled A birds-eye view of urbanization: how can we create better suburban habitats for wildlife and humans?

For this years Fox-Adler lecture, British author-illustrator William Grills will discuss his work researching, writing about, and illustrating based on his works Shackleton's Journey (2014) and The Wolves of Currumpaw (2016)

Friday, Sept. 20, 3:30 p.m., ESS hike through 窪蹋勛圖厙 lands

All interested students are welcome to join us on either a hike up a local ADK mountain or an exploration of Fish Creek in kayaks and canoes, followed by a pizza dinner.

Monday, Sept. 23, 7 p.m., Migration and Climate Change

A panel of experts from the Climate Reality Project and regional colleges explores the intersection of two of the major challenges to world peace in the 21st century.  Part of Saratoga Peace Week.

Wednesday, Sept. 25, Anthropocene film screening

Edward Burtynskys new film, Anthropocene, will be shown on campus in coordination with the UN Climate Action Summit.
Location: Gannett Auditorium

Friday, Sept. 27, Saratoga regional trails

Seth Brown, from Quantitative Ventures in DC, will discuss the economic opportunities for trails in the Saratoga Region.

Saratoga Biketoga will sponsor its annual film fest on campus.

Wednesday, Oct. 2, 7 p.m. Ken Ilgunas This Land is Our Land

Ken Ilgunas is an author and journalist whose recent book, Trespassing Across America, details his hike along the Keystone XL Pipeline and stories he gathered from affected landowners.

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 6:30 p.m. ESS Keynote Speaker Mace Vaughan: Bringing Back the Pollinators: How Farmers, Gardeners, Cities, and Schools Can Join the Global Effort to Save Biodiversity

Mace Vaughan is the Co-Director of the Pollinator Program for the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation.  He will discuss his work on the federal Farm Bill, as a case study for how federal policy can help set up possible solutions to conservation issues.  He will also talk about national programs that are being implemented on a local level to protect pollinators.

Informational tables from local environmental and conservation groups will be set up in advance of the keynote address.  If you are interested in finding out about internship or volunteer opportunities, please come by to talk to local representatives.

Monday, Oct. 21, Todd Miller Border Patrol Nation

Border scholar and author Todd Miller will discuss the US southern border with Mexico and its consequences on climate change, migration, and homeland security.

Wednesday, Oct. 23, 5 p.m. ESS Advising Meeting

In advance of registration for spring courses, the ESS Program will hold a meeting to introduce students to the ESS curriculum and answer questions about major and minor requirements and upcoming courses. ESS faculty will give an overview of the program, and then students will break into small groups to discuss our 2 majors:  Environmental Studies and Environmental Science.

Tuesday, Nov 5, 7 p.m., Yogani Govender

Dr. Govender, Dean of Science and Technology at the Interamericana University of Puerto Rico, will give a talk entitled Citizen Science: Civic activism through environmental action, about her citizen science work in Puerto Rico.
