Classics students & faculty gather for food and conversation in the Test Kitchen of the Murray-Aikins Dining Hall once a month for a Classics lunchtime symposium.

The 15th Annual Classical World Lecture

Ellen McLaughlin, acclaimed playwright, poet and translator, visits campus February 13th-17th for a week-long residency co-sponsored by the Classics and Theater Departments. In addition to visiting classes in both departments, Ms. McLaughlin will deliver the 15th Annual Classical World lecture. That evening, at 8pm in JKB, she will perform her one-woman play Penelope.

Metropolitan Museum of ArtAnnual Classics bus trip to The Metropolitan Museum of Art 

Each spring students in CC200 The Classical World travel to NYC to study and present objects in the Greco-Roman galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Keeping Company with Cage: In celebration of John Cage Centennial 2012

Date: April 15, 2012
Time:  6:00 PM
Location: Arthur Zankel Music Center

6 P.M.    Moratorio, sound and visual installation, Arthur Zankel Music Center Lobby by artist Margo Mensing and sound designer Brendan Gaffney. Many voices recorded, compiled, and rearranged using chance operations via the I Ching delivered simultaneously through various sound devices.

7 P.M. Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano, Ladd Hall
David Porter performs Cage's avant-garde classic with choreography by Debra J. Fernandez. Performed by ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø dancers and guest artist Stevie Oakes.
Free and open to the public.

 

Annual Parilia Conference

The Classics Department of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø College will Host a one-day undergraduate research conference in the discipline of Classical Studies -- Greek, Latin, Ancient History and Archaeology.  Faculty and student participation will be from Union College, Hamilton College and Colgate Collge, with students presenting papers followed by discussions.
