Irish novelist John Banville is the author of the critically acclaimed novels, Doctor Copernicus; Kepler, which won the Guardian Prize for fiction in 1981; and The Book of Evidence, which was short-listed for the Booker Prize in 1989 and won the Guinness Peat Aviation award the same year. His latest book is The Sea (2005), which is a finalist for this year's Booker Prize.
