Presented by Ron Seyb, Associate Professor of Political Science. A town hall attendee once shouted, Keep your government hands off my Medicare!highlighting the publics lack of awareness about government-provided benefits. Political scientist Suzanne Mettler describes this as the government-citizen disconnect, which can fuel anti-government sentiment and threaten democracy. This talk will examine how Donald Trump and Elon Musks push to eliminate government programs through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) might ironically make Americans more aware of and appreciative of public services, potentially shifting public opinion in favor of expanding government support. |

This talk will explore the physics behind turntable technology, from the vibrations of a stylus tracing the records surface to the electromagnetic principles of cartridge signal generation. We will examine how amplification and speaker systems convert these signals into audible music. By the end, attendees will have a deeper appreciation for the elegant physics that brings analog music to life. |

In this session, we explore how the renowned surrealist Salvador Dal穩 reimagined Dantes journey through Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise. Commissioned in the 1950s to illustrate the Divine Comedy, Dal穩 brought the medieval masterpiece to life with his signature dreamlike distortions, vivid colors, and unexpected symbolism. A complete set of 100 prints is housed at the Tang Museum, thanks to a generous donation. |
