New Student Advising & Registration Guide

World Languages and Literatures (WLL)

The study of languages is essential as the world becomes more and more internationally connected, and as individual nations become increasingly diverse. The Department of World Languages and Literatures offers introductory through advanced classes in Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, and Italian, as well as courses in the Self-instructional Language Program in American Sign Language, Arabic, Hebrew, Korean, Portuguese, and Russian.

Our courses are designed not only to create language proficiency, but also to enhance student understanding of cultural traditions and behaviors. Our goal is to develop in our students language competency and cultural awareness that enable them to function effectively as global citizens.

To fulfill the language requirement at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, students must complete one course in a foreign language (Note: two courses are required for languages offered through the Self-Instructional Language Program (SILP). We advise students to fulfill this requirement within their first four semesters at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø. This will ensure expanded opportunities for study abroad and appropriate time for further language study.
