The Schick Art Gallery and the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Summer Art Program present the 2016 Summer Art Faculty Exhibition, a group exhibition of works in a variety of materials and styles on display from
July 25–August 5.
The Summer Arts Program teaching staff is composed of both year-round ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø
art faculty and visiting artists. This year, the exhibition will present ceramics,
fibers, prints, painting, sculpture, and photographs by nine artists: Terry Conrad,
Jamie Diamond, Katie DeGroot, Borinquen Gallo, John Galt, Kathy Hemingway-Jones, Lauren
Sandler, Rena Wood, and Ilana Zweschi.
Jamie Diamond and Borinquen Gallo will be on campus this summer as visiting artists
for the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Summer Art Program and will deliver lectures on their work and meet
with students. Photographer Jamie Diamond is interested in photography’s complicated
relationship to the truth; for a series of works titled I Promise to Be a Good Mother, she photographed herself in the role of her mother, donning her mother’s clothes
and hairstyle and using a lifelike doll as a prop. Fiber artist Borinquen Gallo makes
installations using discarded materials such as plastic trash bags, which she shreds,
knots, and twists to create complex and elegant objects. She writes: "My goal is to
elucidate an unexpected beauty from the transformation of mundane materials…."
