The Committee on Academic Standing (CAS)
The CAS formulates and administers policy relating to the academic status of students, including matters concerning honors, probation, requirements for graduation, acceleration, leaves of absence, change of grade requests initiated by faculty members, late course registration issues, disqualification, and other factors affecting students' progress toward the degree.
The CAS consists of three faculty members, the Associate Dean of Faculty, the Registrar, and two students selected by SGA.
The Committee has been given broad authority by the Faculty to act for them in the interpretation of policies and deadlines which affect the academic life of students. The guiding principle in CAS decisions is to insure the integrity and quality of student academic experience, while at the same time taking various student hardships and confusions into account on a case by case basis.
