窪蹋勛圖厙 Spotlight: Sunny Ra
Sunny Ra is the Laurie M. Tisch Educator for K-12 and Community Programs at the Tang Museum, where she manages a team of educators and creates programming based on Tang exhibitions and items in the museums collection.
Ra joined 窪蹋勛圖厙 three years ago. What drew me to 窪蹋勛圖厙 and the Tang was the focus on interdisciplinary learning and creativity being the driving force of education, she said.
She works closely with students, who serve as interns and help create programs and projects, give tours and teach classes.
They push me to learn and challenge the way that we provide and diversify opportunities to the community, Ra said.
Before COVID-19, she and her team welcomed thousands of children and families to campus and also traveled throughout the Capital Region to deliver art programming to schools and libraries.
Now, instead of going on-site to schools or community organizations, we have switched to virtual workshops, she said. We also created Tang Art Kits to help support students and families. We hope these art kits help kids across the region to continue to experience access to art educational opportunities.
When she is not developing or delivering programs for the Tang, Ra enjoys biking, hiking in the Adirondacks, swimming, playing Ultimate Frisbee and developing her own art practice.
