Bernie Possidente
Bernie Possidente, professor of biology, presented a poster titled "A 5XFAD Transgenic Mouse Model
for Photoperiod Treatment of Circadian Rest/Activity Disruption in Alzheimer's Disease"
at the Society for Research on Biological Rhythms at its May meeting at Amelia Island,
Florida. The presentation highlighted initial results of an ongoing study, in collaboration
with the Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, to investigate
whether bright light treatment can improve rest/activity cycles in mice with Alzheimer's
disease. The project is supported by the Florence Petrlik Family Foundation. Possidente
also co-authored an e-print article, with colleagues in the Industrial Systems Engineering
Department at RPI, in the open-access journal arXiv, titled "." The article describes a method for monitoring and analyzing circadian activity
data to facilitate real-time adjustment of lighting systems to improve disrupted rest/activity
cycles.
