Barbara Black, professor of English, delivered a paper titled "The Hotel Habit: Home and Away" at the at Villa La Pietra in Florence, Italy in May. Black also has been selected to teach on the graduate faculty of the School of Letters at Sewanee University in Tennessee next summer.

Andrew Lindner

Andrew Lindner, associate professor of sociology, co-authored (with Ziggy Schulting '18) an article titled "" in Socius, a peer-reviewed open access journal of the American Sociological Association. The study examines whether movies that pass the "Bechdel Test" receive better or worse reviews from film critics. The Bechdel Test assesses whether a movie has two or more named female characters who talk to each other about something other than a man. The majority of Hollywood movies do not pass.

Eric Morser

Eric Morser, associate professor of history, has a new book titled []. According to the publisher, Morser "artfully reconstructs their moving personal tales and locates them in a grander historical context. By doing so, he demonstrates that even seemingly small stories from antebellum America can help us understand the rich complexities of the era."
