Activities
David Karp, associate dean of student affairs and director, campus life and student conduct, attended a Conference on Restorative Justice, Responsive Regulation & Complex Problems in July at the University of Vermont, Burlington. He gave the keynote address, titled “College Student Misconduct, Restorative Justice, and Student Development: Findings from the STARR Project (Student Accountability and Restorative Research Project)”; and led a half-day pre-conference workshop with Duke Fisher on “RJ for College Student Misconduct.”
Also in July he was a visiting scholar at the University of Sassari, Sardinia, Italy,
with Anna Bussu. They presented a half-day workshop on Restorative Justice for Juvenile
Justice Social Workers.
From June 22-27 Karp attended the second International Symposium on Restorative Justice,
held in Skopelos, Greece, where he presented a paper titled “Managing Microaggressions
in Restorative Justice Conferences.” The symposium, which had as its theme “Race and
Power,” took place under the auspices of the Restorative Justice for All Institute
(RJ4All). A total of 25 academics and practitioners representing 10 countries who
are international leaders in the fields of race equality, restorative justice and
criminal justice came together to debate in a Greek Symposium method what needs to
be done about race inequality and power imbalances in our modern societies. Issues
were raised around indigenous, aboriginal, migrant, refugee and black and minority
ethnic communities.
Jay Rogoff, visiting assistant professor of English, conducted public pre-performance interviews
with New York City Ballet master in chief Peter Martins and NYCB principal dancer
Wendy Whelan at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center during the company’s July residency.
On July 14, in his role as the Saratoga Shakespeare Company’s board president and
dramaturg, he delivered a talk at the Saratoga Springs Public Library called “Whodunnit?
An Introduction to Macbeth,” before the company’s two-week run of Shakespeare’s tragedy
in Congress Park.

Victor Cahn, professor emeritus of English, will star in a performance of his play, Roses in December, Oct. 15 at the Saratoga Springs Public Library. Devra Cohen-Tigor will join Cahn
in the free performance, scheduled at 7:30 p.m. in the H. Dutcher Community Room.
Doretta Miller, professor of art, is one of four ϳԹ artists with work in the juried at Albany Institute of History and Art. The exhibition, one of the longest-running regional art exhibitions in the country. The show closes Jan. 19, 2015.
Jay Rogoff, visiting assistant professor of English, is the author of "Happy and Wretched in Boston," an essay-review of the Mark Morris Dance Group's production of Acis and Galatea, published in Ballet Review, Vol. 42, No. 3 (Fall 2014).
In addition, he has recently published several poems: “The Good Death” in Epoch, Vol. 63, No. 1 (Spring 2014); “Enamel Eyes” in , No. 146 (Summer/Fall 2014, ; “Le Jardin des Tuileries” and “Monet in England” in The Southern Review, Vol. 50, No .3 (Summer 2014); “First Negative” in The Hudson Review, Vol. 67, No. 2 (Summer 2014); and “Swanilda Arms for War” and “Swanilda’s Dowry” in the British journal POEM, Vol. 2, No. 2 (Summer 2014). “Childhood’s End,” his review of a performance by the Mark Morris Dance Group, appeared in Ballet Review, Vol. 42, No. 2 (Summer 2014), and “Heaven and Earth in Balanchine’s Philosophy,” an essay-review of four George Balanchine “black-and-white” ballets performed by the New York City Ballet, appeared in The Hopkins Review, Vol. 7, No. 3 (Summer 2014), where he serves as dance critic. He also covered the summer 2014 New York City Ballet season as well as performances by Momix and the Bolshoi Ballet at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center for The Saratogian.
