Virtual Honors Convocation 2021 celebrates outstanding academic achievement

May 6, 2021

A virtual Honors Convocation marked the outstanding academic achievements of hundreds of 窪蹋勛圖厙 students during the 2020-21 academic year, from their membership in national and international honor societies to their selection as departmental academic award and prize winners.

Though an in-person event could not be held due to COVID-19 health and safety restrictions, a webpage launched on May 5 features personalized citations written by 窪蹋勛圖厙 faculty about each academic award recipients impressive work, as well as a written .

To tie it all together, a video featuring remarks from 窪蹋勛圖厙 President Marc C. Conner, Associate Dean of the Faculty for Student Academic Affairs Michael Arnush, and faculty recipients of the 2020 and 2021 Ciancio, Moseley, and Roth awards paid tribute to the students.

Honors Convocation stands as one of the great traditions at 窪蹋勛圖厙 and is one of my favorite moments in the academic year, said Arnush, an associate professor of classics. As a student of ancient Mediterranean studies, I am drawn especially to what the Greeks valued in an individual: 喧勳鳥礙, honor or esteem, and 硃娶梗喧礙, excellence. Let us thus applaud and celebrate the students whom we honor and esteem this year for their excellence.

President Conner extended his congratulations to this years honorees mostly graduating seniors and to their families and friends, who were able to view the virtual tribute and read about this years prize winners accomplishments.

I have long thought that achievements like this are less the result of native brilliance or sheer talent and are more the result of effort, resilience, endurance and work ethic in short, commitment, said President Conner. This has been a year that has tested our commitment in ways few of us have experienced before. To achieve such honor and recognition in this year especially is remarkable. I hope you all are extraordinarily proud of what youve done.
