Opportunity with MDOCS: Storytellers' Institute Director

June 16, 2016

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø invites applications for a Director of the Storytellers' Institute, a five-week signature summer program for documentarians, college undergraduates and faculty that is part of the John B. Moore Documentary Studies Collaborative (MDOCS).

MDOCS is an interdisciplinary program that offers training and resources that draw on the documentary arts for critical inquiry, discovery, civic engagement and exposition in media and technologies such as film, audio, photography, exhibition and multimedia.

The Institute is a hybrid academic-creative experience for undergraduate students, liberal arts faculty and documentary artists and includes classes, workshops and public programming. The ideal candidate will have significant professional experience in documentary arts production as well as college teaching and/or curatorial experience.

The director, a professional in documentary media (i.e. sound, video, photography and/or multimedia), will teach two production courses each year and organize the institute, which includes:

  • developing and promoting cutting-edge public and internal programming;
  • recruiting participants nationally and internationally; and
  • supporting student/faculty documentary fellows.

A visionary and collaborative partner keen to build an exciting young program, the director will express a strong affinity for evidence-based, research-driven communication across a broad range of disciplines, be committed to inclusive and community-based work that engages cultural and political realities, integrate creativity and critical inquiry in their work; and bring problem-solving skills, high standards and the capacity to work well with others. For qualifications and requirements, see the .

Accepting applications through September 15, 2016. Start date is flexible (as early as fall 2016), with a preference for someone who can contribute to the 2017 Storytellers' Institute.
