Professor Oremland joined the department as an assistant professor in 2015. She received her Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh in 2012, and then completed a three-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Mathematical Biosciences Institute. Professor Oremland’s research is in mathematical biology, where she designs, simulates, and analyzes models of biological systems in order to suggest mechanisms underlying various scientific phenomena. She is also interested in exploring best practices in teaching mathematical modeling, and has written several Mathematics Education publications in this area. Professor Oremland believes in learning by doing and prioritizes active learning experiences in her classroom. She teaches a range of mathematics courses for the department, including the Calculus sequence, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Intro to Proof, and various mathematical modeling courses.
