Exercise Science Major Jazzmina Moore Recipient of Kathryn Wasserman Davis 100 Projects for Peace Program

Two ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Students Receive $10,000 Grants for Peace Projects

It is my pleasure to announce that the Kathryn Wasserman Davis 100 Projects for Peace Program has named Joseph Kaifala ’08 (along with the International Affairs Club) and Jazzmina Moore ’09 among one hundred college students from 65 colleges and universities to receive funding for summer projects promoting peace around the world. In celebration of her one hundredth birthday, the philanthropist Kathryn Wasserman Davis donated $1 million dollars to establish a fund by which 100 college students would receive $10,000 grants to support a project that they proposed which would help to build peace on a global scale. Mrs. Davis’ family has long been associated with the United World Colleges, whose Davis Scholars program counts ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø among its recipients.

Joseph Kaifala ’08, along with the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø International Affairs Club, will work toward the completion of a public library in Conakry-Dee, a rural town in Sierra Leone. Jazzmina Moore ’09 will go to Tanzania, where she will develop a peace studies curriculum directed at secondary school students.

Further details, both about this program and the projects planned by Kaifala and Moore, will be publicized shortly on the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø website. In addition, I invite you to examine the program’s website, , should you be interested in further information.

Congratulations to Joseph and Jazzmina for their outstanding proposals, and on behalf of the committee which nominated their proposals out of a pool of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø proposed projects, we wish you two the very best of luck in implementing your very worthy projects for peace.

Sincerely yours,

Stephen Butler Murray
