Instructor(s): Minita Sanghvi, Management and Business
When will a woman make it to the White House? What difference does it make? Why does it matter? When will a Black woman become President? What about an Asian man? A Muslim woman? A gay man? A trans-woman? What role does gender play in the political system?
In this seminar, we will chart the history of gender roles from the suffragists to the 2016 presidential elections in the United States. A multifaceted perspective, complemented by various multimedia resources, helps students understand the role of gender, expectations regarding gender roles in society, gender stereotypes and biases, intersectionality, gay, and trans-rights in the US political campaigns.
