Course Description

THE Dancing Brain

Instructor(s): Sarah DiPasquale, Dance

An exploration of  the relationship between movement and the brain and how this relationship can enhance the human potential. The human body is in constant motion, controlled by the brain and affects all aspects of our experiences, interactions, and perceptions. Borrowing from the disciplines of education studies, human physiology, psychology, and visual art, we will seek to answer the complex questions of how physical movement affects our lives. We will unpack the ways in which movement and dance may impact our learning, communication, and relationships through an experiential project-based approach. Students will regularly participate in movement activities but prior dance experience is not required. This course will culminate with a service-learning project in which students will design and implement a community event, sharing their newfound knowledge with others.
