Connecting Threads: Exploring the History of Textile Art
Instructor(s): Sang Wook Lee, Studio Art
Textiles are made primarily for furnishings and dress, and are expected to wear out and eventually be discarded. Yet they have important, lasting connections to the culture of a particular place and time. In this course, students will discover that the history of textiles is a wide-ranging subject embracing anthropology, social and economic history, and art and design history. We will also explore different approaches to techniques peculiar to the art of textiles. Students will reflect on their own connections to textiles through visual expression, writing, and oral presentations.
