Scribner Seminar Program
Course Description
British Past in Film
Instructor(s): Dan Nathan, American Studies
This course critiques how filmmakers have represented the British past. It examines feature films as historical documents that reflect and sometimes reproduce the cultural politics of the period in which they were made and first viewed. The course encourages students to engage in a dialogue between the past and the present, and to consider the ways in which a vibrant form of popular culture informs, obfuscates, and subverts historical understanding.
