Board of Appeals (APPEALS)
2015-2016
Function: At the discretion of the DoS/VPSA or DoF/VPAA, the BOA may review cases
heard by the IB and AHB. Appeals will be considered on the following grounds: (a)
a procedural error occurred that significantly impacted the outcome of the hearing
(e.g. substantiated bias, material deviation from established procedures, etc.); (b)
to consider new evidence, unavailable during the original hearing or investigation,
that could substantially impact the original finding or sanction; or (c) the sanctions
imposed are substantially outside the guidelines set by the College for this type
of violation or the cumulative conduct record of the respondent.
Membership: For academic integrity cases, BOA membership includes: two faculty members
appointed by the FEC on a case-by-case basis drawn from the pool of faculty who serve
on the IB who may or may not have heard the case in question, the DoF/VPAA as chair,
the two students drawn from the IB pool who may or may not have participated in the
IB hearing. For social integrity cases, BOA membership includes: one faculty member
appointed by the FEC drawn from the pool of faculty serving on the IB who may or may
not have heard the case in question, the DoS/VPSA as chair, and two students serving
on the IB who may or may not have participated in the initial hearing. The decision
whether or not to involve members of the board present at the initial hearing is made
at the discretion of the DoF/VPAA in academic integrity cases or the DoS/VPSA in social
integrity cases.
