New Faculty Learning Community

Date: Wednesday, February 1, 2016
Time: 4:00 - 5:15 p.m.

For first-year faculty, please come and share in the conversation about student evaluations and starting a new semester.

Sustainability Lunch Series: Sustainability and Justice

Date: Wednesday, February 8, 2017
Time: 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.
Location: Dining Hall Test Kitchen
The Office of Sustainability and the CLTL are very pleased to be collaborating on a lunch series during spring semester with the intention of bringing faculty together who are interested in talking about sustainability from integrative and interdisciplinary perspectives. As the Campus Sustainability Plan and the Strategic Plan articulate, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø embraces “the more comprehensive definition of sustainability that includes the interconnected spheres of the environment, the economy, and society.â€

Our first lunch, Sustainability and Justice, will be from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8th. We will have lunch tickets for all participants. Later lunchtime topics will include: Sustainability and Business (March 3rd), Sustainability and Science (March 8th), and Sustainability and Food (March 22nd). If you would like more information, or if you would like to join us, please RSVP to kkellogg@skidmore.edu or bastress@skidmore.edu. Please join us for what will likely be very lively conversations.

Worst Class Scenarios

Date: Friday, February 17, 2017
Time: 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.
Location: Surrey Williamson Inn
Please join the Office of the FYE and the CLTL for an afternoon of fun and discussion around the topic of classes that didn’t go according to plan. We have a panel of faculty (and one associate dean!) ready to share their most disastrous moments in the classroom and how they worked through them. There will be time for questions and discussion, followed by a reception in the newly renovated Surrey Williamson Inn.

The Open Classroom Week

Date: February 20th-24th
On behalf of Michael Arnush, Chair of Classics, Bill Duffy, Chief Technology Officer, and the CLTL, I’m delighted to announce the third annual Open Classroom Week.

Once again we are asking interested faculty to open one class (or more!) during the week of February 20-24 to faculty, staff, trustees, and administrators who would like to sit in. This is an opportunity for the community to learn with our students and to engage with the many varied and exciting pedagogies that are going on every day on campus. If you would like to open your classroom, please email me, bastress@skidmore.edu with the following information: Title of your class, the time, day, location, and how many visitors you are willing to welcome. Thank you to those who have already offered to open your classes.

Faculty Writing Group

Location: Dining hall test kitchen
