A major gift from the estate of Dr. Pamela Shaw ’80 will support endowed scholarships at ϳԹ to help meet financial need for students majoring in science. The legacy gift is one of the largest ever bequeathed to the College by an alumna.

Announcements

Founder’s Day Picnic 

‌All are invited to join the College community in celebration of the start of our fall semester at the Founder’s Day Picnic, 4:30-6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 3, in the tent at Upper South Park. Please note that Murray-Aikins Dining Hall will be closed during this time. The Office of College Events is also seeking volunteers to help serve food; contact collegeevents@skidmore.edu to get involved.

‌An invitation to In It 9 

In It 9, a suite of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs designed to raise our cultural fluency and strengthen our community, will take place Sept. 20-25. All members of the ϳԹ community are encouraged to participate. Please visit the website for more information on all the In It 9 events and to sign up for workshops.

‌Employee vehicle registration 

‌ϳԹ employees who need to register a vehicle may now do so through the online . To register, please click on the permit icon and input the vehicle’s information, click “Add To Cart,” then click on the shopping cart icon to checkout. For those whose vehicles are already registered with a current decal, there is no need to register again. Please reach out to the Department of Campus Safety at 518-580-5567 or by email with questions. 

‌Seeking ‘hosts' for international students 

‌All ϳԹ employees are invited to join the International Friendship Family Program, a relational program (no housing required) that pairs faculty and staff with an international student to help them feel welcomed into the ϳԹ community. It's low-key and fun, and some connections last a lifetime. Submit an application or contact Chloe Jaleel with questions. 

‌Campus Safety move and interim fleet vehicle process 

‌Facilities Services is finalizing construction of the new Campus Safety office, which will be on the first floor of the Annex. As part of this move, all fleet vehicles have been relocated to the Falstaff parking lot. Campus Safety will complete its relocation during the week of Aug. 26. If you are borrowing a fleet vehicle, please plan to pick up and drop off the keys at Jonsson Tower during the transition period, Aug. 9-26. The vehicles will need to be picked up and dropped off in the Falstaff Lot. All vehicles have a designated parking spot, which should be clearly marked.

Broadview Credit Union updated hours 

‌Beginning Monday, Aug. 26, the on-campus branch of Broadview Federal Credit Union will return to its full-time hours: Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a 1:15 to 2 p.m. break for lunch.

Intergroup Relations workshop 

‌Intergroup Relations, a program that explores dialogue within a social justice context, invites faculty and staff to participate in a Zoom workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug 26, and Tuesday, Aug. 27, with Monita Thompson and Charles Behling of the University of Michigan. Contact Lisa Grady-Willis with questions. 

‌Updated Title IX Policies 

‌The ϳԹ Title IX Policies have been revised to comply with the released in late April. Changes include easier access to resolution options, clarity of resources/support for pregnant and parenting students, increased jurisdiction over off-campus incidents, and alignment with ϳԹ’s values and other policies to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. The Title IX Office and the Advisory Council on SGBM will continue to review and refine these policies and educate the community this fall and throughout the academic year. Please contact the Title IX coordinator with any questions.

‌Dining Services summer hours ‌ ‌

‌The Spa is open daily from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A breakfast menu is available from 8 to 11 a.m.; hot soup and a deli menu are available from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Grab-and-go items are sold in Burgess Café. More information about Dining Services' hours of operation is available on the . ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ 

‌Pop-up grill ‌ 

‌Dining Services offers a pop-up grill on Porter Plaza, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. The grill menu features hotdogs, burgers (both beef and plant-based), and grilled chicken sandwiches. A combo meal includes your choice of a grill item, two sides, and a beverage for $7.99. In the case of rain, the pop-up grill will be relocated to inside The Spa. ‌‌

‌Summer Bulletin publication schedule 

Beginning next week (Aug. 28), Bulletin will resume distribution to students in addition to employees. Submit announcements and events; lectures, panels, and other academic events; and faculty-staff achievements by completing the appropriate online form. The deadline for all submissions is noon on Monday. Please email swb@skidmore.edu if you have questions.
