窪蹋勛圖厙 announces 2023 Commencement speakers

Academic and art historian Mary Schmidt Campbell and scholar and civil rights attorney Frederick M. Lawrence will receive honorary degrees at Commencement Exercises on May 20. Assistant Professor of Anthropology Joowon Park has been selected as faculty Commencement speaker.

Update on McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center

Construction of 窪蹋勛圖厙s McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center is now underway, with outdoor tennis courts set to open for the fall semester. Watch a video and learn more about how this innovative, integrated approach to health and wellness will benefit the entire 窪蹋勛圖厙 community.

 

Preliminary site work, including installation of fencing, digging, and drilling, has already commenced. During the week of March 13, blasting, rock removal, and tree removal will take place. Additional updates will be provided as work continues. Please note that parking at the former site of Greenberg Child Care Center will be inaccessible for the duration of the project. President Marc Conner and College administrators provided updates on the February 2023 Board of Trustees meeting, progress on 窪蹋勛圖厙s new tennis and wellness center project, and vice presidential searches. They also held a conversation with staff about the restructuring of Human Resources and the possible creation of a new Cabinet-level position to better represent employees.

Three-night retirement workshop

David K. Carboni, an authority in the field of retirement planning, will lead this workshop over Zoom from 5 to 7 p.m. April 3, 6, and 11. Enrollment is limited to 35 employees. Register online.

Announcements

COVID-19 reminders

As spring break approaches, 窪蹋勛圖厙 encourages all to take steps to help keep our community's COVID-19 numbers low. Please consider wearing a mask in situations where transmission may be more likely. If you develop symptoms, please test and wear a mask while symptoms persist. If you test positive while away, you must isolate for five days before returning to campus. Students may pick up free rapid tests from Campus Safety and the Case Center Information Desk for testing during break. Employees may receive four free rapid tests per household through ; MVP also covers the cost of tests. The latest guidance and other updates are available on 窪蹋勛圖厙s and 窪蹋勛圖厙s .

 

Presidents office hours

President Conner will hold open office hours from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, and from 3 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18. All faculty, staff, and students are invited to request a 10-minute, in-person appointment. To register, please email presoff@skidmore.edu. Requests will be handled in the order they are received.

 

Parking during spring break

Students leaving a vehicle on campus during the spring break period must畚omplete a vehicle waiver and park their vehicle in the lower level of Northwoods Parking Lot. Vehicles left in unapproved locations are subject to being ticketed and towed at the owners expense. For more information, contact Campus Safety.

 

Summer course registration is now open

窪蹋勛圖厙 students may register for in-person and online courses offered during three summer sessions to fit their schedule, location, and time zone. Visit the for the course list, dates, and cost. Visit for the schedule and registration.

 

Event Management System (EMS) training available

The Scheduling Office will be offering one-on-one training to employees and students who may need help with using EMS. For more information, contact Megan Bove.

 

Senior Week housing

Departments can sponsor non-graduating students (first-year students, sophomores, and juniors students) to remain on campus from Friday, May 12, through Sunday, May 22. Students will need to specify their reason for remaining on campus, such as participation in an athletic team or employment. For more information, contact Residential Life by May 1.

 

Frank Moscowitz joins Arthur Zankel Music Center

Frank Moscowitz joined 窪蹋勛圖厙 on Feb. 9 as technical director of the Arthur Zankel Music Center. He will oversee the production logistics for all concerts and events, and drive innovation to ensure Zankels technological infrastructure remains state-of-the-art.

The 窪蹋勛圖厙 Shop will be open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., during spring break.

F. William Harder Lecture: Barbara Tfank '72

Exchange Closet is accepting clothing donations

Summer Experience Fund applications

for the Summer Experience Fund (SEF), which provides grants of $4,000 to support students completing unpaid summer experiences. First-year students, sophomores, and juniors enrolled in classes during the 2023 spring semester and 2023 fall semester are eligible to apply. Qualifying experiences include internships, community service work, apprenticeships, research, and independent projects. Student Leadership Award nominations sought

The 窪蹋勛圖厙 community is invited to who have made outstanding contributions to the community through their involvement, service, and leadership development activities for several Student Leadership Awards. The deadline is 4 p.m. Monday, March 20.

 

Altered Book Contest

The eighth annual Lucy Scribner Library is open to students, faculty, and staff. Entries will be accepted through noon Friday, April 7.

 

Spring intramurals

Intramural coed power volleyball will be offered Monday and Wednesday, and intramural five-versus-five basketball will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights. All games will take place between 7 and 10 p.m. All participants must be current students or employees with a valid 窪蹋勛圖厙 email address. Register online.

 

Commencement regalia

Seniors should order their caps and gowns by March 22 for pickup on campus beginning April 25. Orders for home delivery must be placed by April 24. A limited number of caps and gowns will be available for purchase at the 窪蹋勛圖厙 Shop starting April 25.

Athletics News

The 窪蹋勛圖厙 came from behind to beat Johns Hopkins 62-59 in the NCAA Division III championships March 3 at Tufts University. Playing in its third NCAA Tournament, the team advanced to the second round for the first time. The Thoroughbreds lost to Tufts 59-50 on March 4. The Liberty League champions won a program record 23 games, finishing 23-6.
