The DOF concurred, reasoning that the College’s chief academic officer, who represents Academic Affairs in all of its multiplicity (the Tang, Scribner Library, Special Programs, etc.) and is the locus of authority, should be on CEPP. CEPP also believes that it is appropriate for the VPAA to bring the DOF (and/or any other relevant administrator) to CEPP meetings, at her/his discretion, in order to provide relevant information and counsel. Additionally, CEPP can imagine a scenario in which the VPAA would send a designee in her/his stead. The VPAA expressed reservations about this possible change in CEPP membership, particularly concerning the issue of her ability to bring visitors. Would future CEPPs recognize this as a legitimate practice? Discussion ensued about how to make this arrangement transparent and part of CEPP’s operating code. The VPAA and CEPP agreed to think about and discuss these issues. Next, the VPAA reported that a Center (variously referred to as a Center for Teaching and Learning, and as a Center for Faculty Excellence) Planning Committee has been formed, and that she is working on its charge. Finally, the VPAA said that she was encouraged by the response she received at Academic Staff regarding assessment. She also said that she is going to accept CEPP’s recommendation that the initial Assessment Coordinator (or some such title) should be drawn from a pool of internal candidates. By the end of the month, she reported, a job description and call for candidates will be issued. Meeting was adjourned at 7:35.
